Yesterday, I learned that I’ve been awarded a Literary Creation Projects (Works for Publication) grant from the Ontario Arts Council. The grant, my first from a Canadian arts funding body, is for the further development of my novel-in-progress.

I have really needed this—not even “just” the grant itself, but the morale boost here in Canada. My utter gratitude to the jury for supporting this, you know, slightly unorthodox novel that I am writing.

I also remain very thankful for the support of others in Canada, as I continue the slow expansion of my career here: the team at Arsenal Pulp Press; those writers and artists who have shared opportunities and knowledge with me (special thanks to Sunny Drake for a conversation on grant-writing that informed my approach to my grant application); bookshops such as Glad Day; and of course, every reader, known or unknown to me.
