Quarry relays a year in the life of a body in transition. It examines queer social spaces and contested natural spaces, asking how they affect each other. Tanis Franco eschews traditional narratives of the queer and transgender body, bringing nuanced ideas to an ongoing literary and philosophical conversation.

Something that I’ve noticed about the book launches in Canada that I’ve attended is that they often feature guest readers, who read from their own works. This is quite different from the drill in Australia, where typically the only reading that is given is from the work that is being launched. So reading at another author’s launch is a pretty new experience for me and I am honoured to be part of the emergence of this debut work into the world.
