Coming up soon, I’ll be reading at the launch of Toronto writer Tanis Franco’s debut book Quarry. Here’s a description of the gig, as drawn from the Facebook event:

Launch: Tanis Franco with Tom Cho, Sarah Pinder & Gwen Benaway

Wed Feb 21, 2018, 8:00pm–9:30pm

Glad Day Bookshop, 499 Church Street, Toronto, Ontario M4Y 2C6

FREE

Join author Tanis Franco and readers Gwen Benaway, Tom Cho, and Sarah Pinder to celebrate the launch of Quarry.

Quarry relays a year in the life of a body in transition. It examines queer social spaces and contested natural spaces, asking how they affect each other. Tanis Franco eschews traditional narratives of the queer and transgender body, bringing nuanced ideas to an ongoing literary and philosophical conversation.

Author Tanis Franco will be joined by three dynamic readers in a queer poetry extravaganza. This is an evening you don’t want to miss.

Something that I’ve noticed about the book launches in Canada that I’ve attended is that they often feature guest readers, who read from their own works. This is quite different from the drill in Australia, where typically the only reading that is given is from the work that is being launched. So reading at another author’s launch is a pretty new experience for me and I am honoured to be part of the emergence of this debut work into the world.
