Following on from my blog post yesterday, Match One in Meanjin’s Tournament of Books 2012 saw my piece “Today on Dr Phil” pitted against Katherine Susannah Prichard’s “Happiness” (a story that I’ve not read – I thought that I had studied one of her novels in uni but I now realise that I haven’t actually read any of her work).

Writer and critic Angela Meyer scrutinised both stories and my piece came out on top.

Understatement alert: My story seems really different from Katherine Susannah Prichard’s.

That said, the two-headed writerly beast that appears on Angela’s write-up suggests that we may not be so far apart:
